The water in Qiandao Lake is very clear. Thousand Islets Lake, also called the Xin’anjiang Reservoir, is located in Chun’an County, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is connected to the northwest of Jiande City in Hangzhou. It was built in 1955 and completed in 1960, it is an artificial lake built to hold back the upper reaches of the Xin’an river for the construction of the Xin’an hydropower station. The reservoir dam is 105 meters high and 462 meters long. The reservoir is about 150 kilometers long and has a maximum width of more than 10 kilometers. The deepest point is more than 100 meters, and the average water depth is 30.44 meters. Under normal water level, the area is about 580 square kilometers. The water storage capacity can reach 17.8 billion cubic meters. At the highest water level, there are 1078 land bridge islands which is more than 0.25 square kilometers, and the islands mainly are less than 2 square kilometers. The island area is 409 square kilometers. Thousand Island Lake water ranks top in the Great Lakes of China in the Great Lakes. It is a national first-class water body and has reached the drinking water standard without any treatment. It is known as “The finest water in the world”. On December 15, 1984, the Zhejiang Geographical Names Committee officially named Xin’anjiang Reservoir as “Thousand Islets Lake”.
The Thousand Islets Lake landscape is divided into two scenic spots: The Central Lake District and the Southeast Lake District. It takes 5 to 6 hours to finish your visit in 1 lake area, so you are impossible to play two lakes in one day. Tickets for the scenic spots include boat tickets and the entrance tickets. If you want to play two lakes, you can explain when you buy tickets, so you can pay extra 10 yuan. In this way, you don’t have to buy entrance tickets for the next day, but the boat tickets must be bought for every day.
